UC Merced receives $4.36 Million in CIRM funding for Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry
May 7, Merced - The University of California, Merced, has been chosen as the location for a Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). The facility, anticipated to cost about $7.5 million total, will be supported with $4.36 million from CIRM through its Major Facilities Grant program.
UC agricultural research leads to standardized taste testing and better eating fruit
Fresno, May 1 - For centuries farmers decided their fruit was ready to pick by plucking one from a tree and taking a bite. Agricultural scientists now know that shipping and storage affect fruit flavor and that standardized scientific tasting produces reliable results. UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources collaborated with produce industry groups, farmers to build a new 1100-square-foot laboratory designed for sensory testing at Kearney Research and Agricultural Center in Parlier. The new lab was completed last month.

Jan. 17, Livermore - Recent research by scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the University of California, Merced and the National Center for Atmospheric Research shows that California temperatures have jumped statewide by more than 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit between 1915 and 2000. UC offers 'Week of Blueberries' field day – Parlier

California blueberries — how to grow them and sell them — is the topic of educational events during the “Week of Blueberries” organized by University of California researchers. The events will include national and international blueberry experts, who will share their experiences in expanding markets and solving production problems. Planning for increased market competition is one common theme in many of the presentations, according to field day organizer Manuel Jimenez, Small Farm Program advisor in Tulare County. In Parlier, the Field Day will be held at the UC Kearney Agricultural Center on Wed. May 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration is $25 or $35 after May 16.
