The
University of California established the UC Center, Fresno in 1997
to better serve the educational needs of San Joaquin Valley residents
and to prepare for the opening of UC Merced.
The
UC Center, Fresno gathers many of the region's UC programs into
one centralized facility and fosters an environment in which academic
degree, extension, outreach, and research initiatives can be established
and delivered to students, parents, alumni, professionals, and the
community. UC Center partners also include other non-profit and
educational organizations.
Services
such as undergraduate admissions information, summer courses for
UC students, professional development, teacher training, workshops
for educational counselors, and public policy forums are offered
at the UC Center, Fresno. In addition, office space and meeting
facilities are available for rent.
The
UC Center, Fresno is one of three distributed learning sites that
will expand educational access to students by using Internet and
videoconferencing technology to deliver UC course work conveniently
and economically throughout the valley. UC Merced opened a second
center in Merced in 1999, and a center in Bakersfield in 2000.
At
the UC Center, Fresno, the University of California has formed a
unique gathering of educational, health care, and community-based
organizations that provides new opportunities for collaborative
work of benefit to valley residents.
The
UC Center is located at: 550
E. Shaw Ave., Fresno CA 93710
