Technology has had a huge impact on the academic lives of students. From advanced computers to daily appliances used to make chores less time consuming, if you look back at the statistics of people who completed school a few years ago, you will see the positive impact of technology on modern education.
When I was growing up, I loved reading comic books. Every week I bought dozens of them and spent the whole night reading them. One thing I hated to do was open a book and start to study. The problem is that I could not get through the first few pages without having to postpone it to my next study schedule and go to bed.
Amazing computer software is designed to help students study and learn new things without opening a book (there are a lot of different styles of learning, you know. For some of us, reading just doesn’t cut the mustard). Some games are more focused on things that will help kids at the end of the day. The only thing I enjoyed at school was doing projects or practicals. This is because I knew I had to get good marks without having to open a book.
I enjoyed studying using the different kinds of study software and chatting with my friend online using Skype. The thing that we don’t realize is that we are studying even though it’s still fun. In the past, the moment I got home, I would start searching for topics that were covered at school and read articles and eBooks. I would then log in to discuss what I read with my friends.
Playing games and researching for information online is very helpful students at all school levels. This is particularly important during tests and examinations. This also helps students maintain a better understanding of subjects covered in class.
At college, I loved online study groups and reading electronic books. This helped me a lot and my grades also improved. I cannot adequately explain the magnitude of the impact that technology has had on my study technique. Now kids even use their cellular phones to do their homework and I rely on electronic books to prepare for my tests.
I knew a guy back in my freshman year that had to study sitting on the dishwasher – while it was running. I always thought he was crazy but he wasn’t hurting anyone so I figured I’d let it pass. None of my business, you know? I’m laughing now as I think about the day I finally asked him what the heck he was doing. He was hopping from one appliance to the next with a calculus textbook in his hands. It turns out (he says, anyway) that he was waiting for a dishwasher repairman to come and that he needed the vibrations from the motor to help him concentrate for an exam the next day. I’m not really sure if he was telling the truth but he always managed to get straight A’s in all the toughest classes.
Technology brings fun into learning; it's hard to get bored when you’re using a computer or cell phone to study. Students even use the library to find information on the internet rather than books. Some schools have started to use tablets and computers to help students learn. That has had a positive impact on students; then again, technology has always been the key to improving the quality of education. Just look at this article about technology in NY classrooms. It’s fascinating stuff.
