Latest UC Center art exhibit features multi-media work by ten artists from the Valley and Sierra foothills
FRESNO - The UC Center, Fresno’s spring Community ArtReach show will open with a public reception on ArtHop night, Thursday, March 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the center, located at 550 E. Shaw Avenue, across from Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno.
The artwork on display comprises a multi-media collection by ten Valley and Sierra foothill area artists. The work is exhibited on two floors at the UC Center.
The exhibit features recent work by Jonathan Bock, a classically trained printmaker and animator. The work is a synthesis of photographic and computer imaging, combined with a philosophy founded on traditional printmaking techniques.
According to Bock, his work is influenced by personal experience with a heart-felt analysis of matters that interest him. He describes some of his work as “visual haiku, poetic images” that reach him on a deep-rooted emotional level while others are “celebrations of my life experience and perceptions.”
Bock earned a bachelor’s in fine art in printmaking from Indiana University and a master’s in fine art in experimental animation from the California Institute of the Arts. He is a gallery owner and curator and resides in the Sierra foothill community of Oakhurst.
Other work on exhibit includes: black-and-white photography by Dave Barber and oil paintings by Thomas Caves both of Fresno; black-and-white photography by Thom Halls of Sanger; color-photography by David Hoffman and pastels by Charlotte Hoffman both from Porterville; natural wood bowl forms by Pope A. Lawrence of Merced; ceramic sculpture by Amy Morgan of Clovis; figural sculpture by Julie Mitchell of Coarsegold; acrylic paintings, watercolor paintings and gourd vessels by Valerie Runningwolf of Clovis.
The exhibit runs through Thursday, May 3 and is open to the public free of charge during normal UC Center business hours.
Community ArtReach is a fine art exhibit presented as a public service to San Joaquin Valley residents by UC Merced and the UC Office of the President with support from participating artists and community volunteers.
