UC Center art exhibit features Sierra Nevada

FRESNO - The UC Center, Fresno’s fall Community ArtReach show, “The Sierra In Contrast,” will open with a public reception on ArtHop night Thursday, September 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the center, located at 550 E. Shaw Avenue, across from Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno.

The artwork on display conveys the dramatic beauty of the Sierra Nevada through the different artistic expressions of two Valley women.

Heidi Vetter’s fine art color photographs are striking in their beauty, clarity and detail, and evoke the solitude of the Sierra wilderness. Many of Vetter’s photographs, created during a three-month solo journey into the backcountry of the High Sierra, are accompanied by her own poems. Vetter is an Oakhurst resident.

In bold contrast are the vibrant, somewhat abstract paintings by Fresnan Heather Anderson. A UC Berkeley alumna, Anderson paints in acrylic on canvas using large brushstrokes and brilliant colors. Through her paintings, Anderson conveys a powerful sense of adventure and the wildness experienced during her many treks into the Sierra backcountry.

Also on exhibit is raku and wood-fired pottery in organic forms and colors by noted Fresno artist Geoffrey Spach.

Community ArtReach is a fine art exhibit presented as a public service to San Joaquin Valley residents by UC Merced and the UC Office of the President with support from participating artists and community volunteers.
