COMMUNITY ARTREACH CELEBRATES FIFTH ANNIVERSARY WITH WHIMSY AND VIVID COLOR IN LATEST EXHIBIT
Fresno - The UC Center, Fresno will hold an opening reception for its fifth anniversary Community ArtReach exhibit on ArtHop night, Thursday, March 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the center, located at 550 E. Shaw Ave., across from Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
The latest exhibit features a whimsical and highly imaginative collection of recent work by well-known Fresno artist Carol Tikijian. Tikijian combines vivid paint colors with salvaged materials such as wood, beads, metal and rope then employs fine drawing expertise, graphic illustration and vivid imagination to create paintings and three-dimensional artwork that merges representational images with abstract concepts.
“Artmaking is a series of decisions and choices which run parallel to life and I am drawn to the challenge of recording my journey,” said Tikijian.
Tikijian, who is an art instructor at Fresno City College, earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in fine art from California State University, Fresno and is a member of Gallery 25.
Also on exhibit is a multi-media collection of varied and colorful work by other well-known artists, including mixed-media by Shannon Bickford; acrylics by Judy DeRosa; photography by Dick Haas and Joan Sharma; fibre art by Jacqueline Kurtt; watercolors by Ann Lewis; and oil paintings by Kathy Lustig, Dixie Salazar and Joan Sharma.
The exhibit will run through May 4 and is free to the public during UC Center business hours. For more information, please call Jeanie Smith at (559) 241-7510.
Community ArtReach, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, is a fine art exhibit presented as a public service to San Joaquin Valley residents by UC Merced and the UC Office of the President with support from participating artists and community volunteers.
