Kern County 4-H All Stars Selected

Bakersfield - The 4-H youth development program is open to all youth 5 – 19 years of age in California. The 4-H program teaches young people valuable life skills such as leadership, public speaking, and citizenship. 4-H members “learn by doing” in over 80 different projects in fields of animal science, consumer science, engineering, and more.

All Star is the highest rank a 4-H member can attain at the county level. The position of All Star is more than an award; it is a symbol of dedication and commitment. All Stars are responsible for serving as youth ambassadors of the 4-H program and have many duties that go along with it. It is an honor and a privilege to hold the rank. This year, Kern County is proud to announce the selection of two All Stars for the 4-H year 2004/2005.

Andrew “Andy” Jones is a five-year member of the Delano Ag 4-H club and attends McFarland High School. He has been active in projects such as swine, rabbits, and photography. Andy has given numerous presentations at county and regional levels. He has also been active in working with younger 4-H members and helping teach them project skills in his position as a Junior and Teen Leader. In addition to his 4-H work, Andy is also an active member of the Future Farmers of America.

Allen Tolbert has been in 4-H for three years and is a member of Valley 4-H Club in Bakersfield. His project work has included market goats, pygmy goats, horses, shooting sports, and foods and nutrition. Allen has participated in a variety of 4-H activities at the county level and has promoted the program to different audiences. He has also been an asset in teaching younger children about horses, roping, and other ranch related work. Allen is a senior at Foothill High School where he is a member of the Future Farmers of America.
