UC Merced Admissions To
Host Conferences for Valley Students and Educators
Merced – San Joaquin Valley students and
educators will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments
in UC Merced’s admissions and academic programs by attending
conferences scheduled in Fresno, Modesto and Bakersfield over the
coming weeks.
“The Valley’s new UC campus at Merced
is on the horizon,” said Encarnación Ruiz, UC Merced
Director of Admissions. “We are committed to offering unique
educational opportunities and will use these conferences to reach
out to our key constituents – the region’s students
and educators.”

Educators, including teachers, principals, and
guidance counselors are welcome to attend these informational breakfasts
to meet with the University’s deans, student affair directors

hope to receive input from the educators on how to best reach students
throughout the Valley.

Pathways to UC Merced: A Student and Parent
Conference
These special conferences are geared for Valley
high school juniors and their parents.
Students will receive a personal evaluation of
their UC Merced eligibility and receive key points to help ensure
their greatest opportunity for being selected into the new research
university. In addition, students and parents will receive information
including academic majors, housing, student life, financial aid
and other important topics.
High school juniors who are on track with completing
their required A-G courses with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA are invited
to attend one of the half-day conferences with their parents.
A Student Registration Form must be completed
ahead of time and returned to UC Merced’s Office of Admissions/Relations
with Schools & Colleges, by the deadline. In addition, an unofficial
transcript for each registered student must be included with the
form.
Once students are registered for the conference,
they will be assigned to one of the following sessions:
- Morning session: 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Afternoon session: 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

UC Merced currently employs more than 100
educators and professionals and will welcome its first 1,000 students
in fall 2004. The University will serve students in three ways that
complement the changing needs of today’s society: 1) a residential
campus serving 25,000 students when complete; 2) educational centers
throughout the San Joaquin Valley; and 3) cooperative agreements
with the California Community College system.
