UC Focuses on San Joaquin
Valley Transfer Students

sponsor an information day for community college counselors as part
of the Ensuring Transfer Success Counselor Institutes on Thursday,
April 24, in Fresno. According to the Central Valley Higher Education
Consortium, about a third of San Joaquin Valley high school graduates
enroll at a community college, and nearly 100 counselors are expected
to learn about UC’s transfer programs at the event, which
will take place at the UC Center, Fresno, located at 550 E. Shaw
Ave., across from Fashion Fair Mall.
Following are some highlights:
• 8:30-9:00, Overview
• 9:00-10:00 and 1:10-2:10, UC Workshops:
UC staff will conduct workshops with community college counselors,
and discuss ways of increasing opportunities for Valley transfers
heading to UC. The workshops will focus on basic training for counselors;
undergraduate majors including science, engineering, and electrical
engineering; transcripts; and financial aid opportunities.
• 10:15-12:00 and 2:15-4:00, UC Campus
Presentations: Sessions will introduce each UC campus and provide
information on student selection criteria, major preparation requirements,
and academic programs. Representatives from UC campuses will be

to UC.
Ensuring Transfer Success institutes have helped
prepare California community college staff since 1993. UC cosponsors
transfer conferences throughout the state, along with CSU and the
California Community Colleges. This year’s conferences are
being held in Foster City, Fresno and Long Beach. To date, Ensuring
Transfer Success institutes have served more than 6,000 counselors
and transfer staff across California.
