UC Focuses on Central Valley Transfer Students

VISALIA - The University of California will sponsor an information day for community college counselors as part of the Ensuring Transfer Success Counselor Institutes on Friday, May 10, in Visalia. About 200 Central Valley counselors will learn about UC’s transfer programs.

The conference will take place at the Visalia Convention Center, located at 303 E. Acequia.

Following are some highlights:

- 8:30-9:00, Overview of Visalia Conference

- 9:00-10:00 and 1:10-2:10, UC Workshops: UC staff will conduct six workshops with community college counselors, and discuss ways of increasing opportunities for Valley transfers heading to UC. The workshops will focus on undergraduate majors, basic training for counselors, transcripts, and financial aid opportunities.

- 10:15-12:00 and 2:15-4:00, UC Campus Presentations: Sessions will introduce each UC campus and provide information on student selection criteria, major preparation requirements and academic programs. Representatives from all UC campuses will be available to speak about assisting Valley students transferring to UC.

Ensuring Transfer Success institutes have helped prepare California community college staff since 1993. UC cosponsors four transfer conferences across the state, along with CSU and the California Community Colleges. Since 1993, Ensuring Transfer Success institutes have served more than 6,000 counselors and transfer staff from virtually every community in California.
