Kern County 4-H member receives state and national recognition

BAKERSFIELD - Kern County 4-H member Kathryn Ball was recently selected to represent California at the 2003 National 4-H Conference in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The National 4-H Conference is an annual event planned and conducted by the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension System of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The purpose of the conference is to strengthen and expand the 4-H Youth Development program at local, state, and national levels. Participation in the conference is open to a select few.
Kathryn is in her second year as a member of the California 4-H Computer Corps. The Corps is a select group of 4-H members from all over the state who provide technical skills and advice to the California 4-H Program. Under the guidance of volunteer leaders the Corps develops material for the program that corresponds with the needs of the 4-H computer project. The Corps designs and maintains the material posted on the California 4-H web page at http://fourh.ucdavis.edu. Computer Corps members also present workshops and train other 4-H members and leaders at regional and state conferences.
In Kern County, Kathryn is a member of the Heart N’ Home 4-H club and has been in 4-H for 7 years. Her projects have included leadership, rabbits, community pride, photography, and quilting. She is also a Kern County All Star, the highest 4-H rank you can earn at the county-level.
