UC CENTER, FRESNO'S LATEST COMMUNITY ARTREACH EXHIBITION FEATURES MIXED MEDIA PAINTINGS BY JUANA ALMAGUER

FRESNO - The University of California Center, Fresno opened its Summer Community ArtReach exhibit on June 7, 2001. The UC Center, Fresno is located at 550 E. Shaw Ave, Fresno, across from Fashion Fair Mall. The current ongoing ArtReach exhibition is open to the public during the UC Center's normal operating hours.

Community ArtReach, an ongoing exhibition of fine art by distinguished San Joaquin Valley artists, is part of the wide variety of services and resources offered by the University of California to Valley residents through the UC Center, Fresno.

The latest ArtReach exhibit features "Chinese Ink Paintings" by Juana Almaguer. Her work has been displayed in numerous galleries in Japan as well as Arte Americas in Fresno. Most recently, her Chinese ink paintings were featured in a solo exhibition at Gallery 25 in downtown Fresno. In addition, her work has been featured on Fresno television channels 47 and 21 and Radio Bilingue.

Additional artists whose work is on exhibit as part of the UC Center's Community ArtReach include: Gretchen Allen, Shannon Bickford, Robert Cochran, Jim Curnyn, Sally Delap-John, Mark Eaton, George Flint, Richard Haas, John Lucas, Buffy Morris, Jeffrey Morris, Randall Plaugher, John Rogers, H. J. Smith, Joyce Tuck and Erin Webster.

The work includes oil, watercolor and mixed media paintings, color and black-and-white photography, fine handcrafted furniture and ceramics.

The UC Center, Fresno, hosted an opening reception the evening of June 7. Artists were available to discuss their work and refreshments were served.

The current summer exhibit will run through August 15. A new Fall Community ArtReach exhibit is scheduled to open Thursday, September 6, 2001.

Quarterly ArtReach receptions are held in conjunction with the Fresno Arts Council's ArtHop nights.

Community ArtReach is a collaborative effort by University of California staff members at the UC Center, Fresno, and Buffy Morris of Morris & Co. Fine Art in Fresno. The program's aim is to support and encourage the creativity of Valley artists and expose the community to fine works of art.
