UC CENTER, FRESNO UNVEILS NEW COMMUNITY ARTREACH EXHIBITION FEATURING MIXED MEDIA PAINTINGS BY JUANA ALMAGUER

Opening reception will be held Thursday, June 7

FRESNO - The University of California Center, Fresno will host a reception to open its latest Community ArtReach exhibit on Thursday, June 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UC Center, Fresno, 550 E. Shaw Ave., across from Fashion Fair Mall.

Community ArtReach, an ongoing exhibition of fine art by distinguished San Joaquin Valley artists, is part of the wide variety of services and resources offered by the University of California to Valley residents through the UC Center, Fresno.

The latest ArtReach exhibit will feature "Chinese Ink Paintings" by Juana Almaguer. Her work has been displayed in numerous galleries in Japan as well as Arte Americas in Fresno. Most recently, her Chinese ink paintings were featured in a solo exhibition at Gallery 25 in downtown Fresno. In addition, her work has been featured on Fresno television channels 47 and 21 and Radio Bilingue.

Additional artists whose work is on exhibit as part of the UC Center's Community ArtReach include: Gretchen Allen, Shannon Bickford, Robert Cochran, Jim Curnyn, Sally Delap-John, Mark Eaton, George Flint, Richard Haas, John Lucas, Jeffrey Morris, Randall Plaugher, John Rogers, Richard Rosas, H. J. Smith, Joyce Tuck and Erin Webster.

The work includes oil, watercolor and mixed media paintings, color and black-and-white photography, fine handcrafted furniture and ceramics.

At the June 7 reception, artists will be available to answer questions about their work, and light refreshments will be served.

This event and future quarterly ArtReach receptions will be held in conjunction with the Fresno Arts Council's ArtHop nights. The exhibit is also open to the public during normal UC Center, Fresno operating hours.

Community ArtReach is a collaborative effort by University of California staff members at the UC Center, Fresno, and Buffy Morris of Morris & Co. Fine Art in Fresno. The program's aim is to support and encourage the creativity of Valley artists and expose the community to fine works of art.
