UC HONORS ADMITTED STUDENTS AT VALLEY-WIDE RECEPTION THIS WEDNESDAY
FRESNO
- The University of California will hold a Valley-wide reception
for students admitted to UC on Wednesday, April 18, from 6:15 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. at the UC Center, Fresno, 550 E. Shaw Ave., across
from Fashion Fair Mall.
At
the event, UC admits will be recognized for their academic achievements,
meet other UC-bound students from the Valley, talk to UC alumni,
and have an opportunity to learn more about the university.
The
reception is part of a series of UC-sponsored events this spring
aimed at encouraging Valley students to attend a University of California
campus in the fall. Admitted students and their families are invited
to participate.
Students
applying to UC receive offers of freshman admission during the months
of March and April, and they must sign a statement of intent to
register by May 1. Community college students transferring to a
UC campus must sign a statement of intent to register by June 1.
Applications
to the University of California and offers of admission from UC
both increased substantially this year. The university admitted
15 percent more students from the Northern San Joaquin Valley and
13 percent more from the Southern San Joaquin Valley this year versus
last year.
The
Valley-wide reception and other activities such as UC campus visits
are sponsored by the UC Merced Office of Relations with Schools
(ORS), which is the Valley's local source for information on UC
admission, financial aid, academic majors, campus visits, and all
undergraduate educational opportunities. ORS works year-round with
middle schools, high schools and community colleges throughout the
San Joaquin Valley and mountain communities, serving more than 25,000
area students. In the spring, ORS efforts focus on encouraging Valley
admits to enroll.
