San Joaquin
Valley School Leadership Institute
Sponsored
by
UC Merced
Division of Professional Studies and
The University of California Educational Research Center
Dates: Monday-Thursday in July 31 – August 4
At
the dawn of the New Millenium, it is clear that more responsibility
for decision-making about educational issues is shifting to school
sites. Along with this
responsibility comes a need for strong leadership skills by principals
and assistant principals.
The San Joaquin Valley School Leadership Institute has been
established to strengthen the leadership and decision-making skills
of school principals and assistant principals in the region.
Through
lectures and dialogue with nationally distinguished scholars on
educational leadership and workshops with veteran school principals,
institute participants will have an opportunity to use and assess
their leadership skills and work with others to strengthen them.
The Institute curriculum will focus both on past as well
as newly emerging ideas about leadership, particularly school leadership. In addition, participants will be introduced to the many resources
on the Internet that are available to school leaders.
Institute participants will complete their work with the
confidence that they are current on new ideas about leadership and
that their skills have been updated.
The
Institute schedule is also designed to support the need for leaders
to establish and maintain networks of colleagues.
Regular opportunities will be provided for participants to
become better acquainted in social settings.
The
Institute will be held at the newly remodeled University of California
Center in Fresno. The
Center is home to the UC Merced Division of Professional Studies,
the University of California Educational Research Center, and programs
that serve K-12 students and teachers throughout the San Joaquin
Valley.
