BRANDY
RAMOS NIKAIDO NAMED UC
SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY REGIONAL COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
The
University of California Office of the President, University Affairs Division, has announced the appointment of Brandy
Ramos Nikaido to the position of San Joaquin Valley Regional Communications
Coordinator. The position is based at the UC Center in Fresno.
Ms.
Nikaido will be responsible for increasing public understanding
and support for the University of California's programs and positions
on public policy issues in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa,
Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties. Ms. Nikaido also
will work to maintain and strengthen relationships between the university
and elected officials, community organizations, businesses and alumni
in the San Joaquin Valley. She will report to the Assistant Vice
President for Strategic Communications, Michael Reese, in Oakland.
UC
offers a wide variety of academic degree, extension, health care,
research and student outreach programs in the San Joaquin Valley.
Examples include the UCSF-Fresno Medical Education program, the
Agriculture and Natural Resources Research and Extension Center
(REC) System, the UC Davis Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician's
Assistant Program, and the UC Santa Cruz Early Academic Outreach
Program.
Ms.
Nikaido has more than 10 years of broadcast media, public affairs
and marketing experience. Most recently, she was the Spare the Air
Employer Partner Coordinator for the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution
Control District. Nearly 800 businesses and organizations from Stockton
to Bakersfield participated in the voluntary air pollution-reduction
program.
From
1996 to 1998, Ms. Nikaido was Operations Manager for Solutions By
Design, a full-service advertising agency in Fresno. She served
as Community Affairs Director for KMPH Fox 26 from 1991 to 1996.
Ms.
Nikaido is a Fresno native and graduate of Bullard High School.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from
the University of California, Berkeley.
